The shock Dnias sent through me would have kept another person stunned for several seconds, maybe a minute. But I’d had my fair share of shocks.
In the lab, electric shock therapy was what the doctor had used. He thought it would enhance my ability, help them figure out what part of my brain it originated from.
It was horrible. It was painful. But in this moment, I was almost thankful, because my recovery time was quick.
I pushed myself to my hands and knees. The “sight” was still gone – maybe the shock had jarred something, flipped a switch. But my ability was still going strong.
Dnias was running. I saw through his eyes, his thoughts. He was running through the memory of the maze, jumping across gaps towards the Door. Yang had vanished, was in his head now, and I could hear them arguing.
“I told you we shouldn’t have trusted him!”
Shut up! I didn’t know, okay? He didn’t seem like the last guy.
“He was reading our minds. H

It wasn’t real.
I knew it when I “saw” that what should have been blood was just white wisps of smoke. But the shock, the fear on the doctor’s face…that was real. I “watched” his image disintegrate into white mist in front of me. Everyone in the room, except for me and my opponent, were slowly dissolving like pills in water. The room itself became bare. All that remained was the bed I was on and the doors.
The scissors clattered to the ground. My hands were shaking. It wasn’t real, but it had felt real. I knew better now but the shock…the guilt, I felt them coming.
I focused on my opponent instead. I “saw” him much clearer now. He was a young man, maybe twenty by my estimate, with spikey blonde hair; I saw pink – a lot of pink, in his hair and in strange gems that decorated his body. He was staring at me with bright amber eyes, looking almost as shocked as the doctor had.

It was real. How could it be real?
There were shouts outside the room. The faint wail of alarms echoed out from the air vents. The lights buzzed above me. The sounds, the smells, and most importantly, the thoughts. It was all real.
It couldn’t be real.
“Doctor,” I said slowly. “I’m sorry, but…what’s going on?”
“There’s been another escape attempt, obviously,” he said.
“No, not out there. I mean…I mean in here. What’s going on here?”
He stopped scribbling, looking up at me. My stomach churned with unease when those green eyes fixed on me. “Have you been drifting again?” he said, setting the pen down. “We’re having a session.”
“Yes, but…what about? What are we talking about?”
His expression went from confused to something close to sympathy. “I see,” he said, “you had an episode.”
